In these tough economic times the New Year will hit the travel industry hard along with all other of life’s non-essential items. Those who still have money in their budget for travel will find many bargains awaiting them.

The half full glass can be applied in every situation. The fuel surcharges from airlines and cruise ships are being dropped. The discounted hotel rooms being offered almost everywhere are a consumer’s benefit. One of the most unusual offers I’ve seen is Elite Island Resorts, a luxury Caribbean hospitality group offer to let travelers pay for rooms with their stock market shares, no joke, not only can one use their now devalued stock, the group will take the stock at its July 1, 2008 price. There are some stocks like General Motors that do not apply, go to www.eliteislandresorts.com/stocks for a list of applicable stocks.

The stocks are transferred by a Merrill Lynch dedicated account program. This promotional offer runs through Jan 31,2009.

Sandals all-inclusive Resorts are offering 55% off their rack rates if booked by January 31,2009, with travel through Dec 26, 2009.

Cruise lines are offering hefty early booking discounts and up-scale lines like Regent are adding perks, like including shore excursions.

Attractions like Disneyland and Universal Orlando Resort are offering package deals at bargain rates. Even the airlines are relenting a bit on the first checked bag fee. Las Vegas rooms at the Bellagio for $129 per night, Venetian $139.00 per night.

It is a buyers market right now for travelers, for how long it is hard to predict, those whose budget will allow should take advantage of the discounted and value-added prices now.

Check out the websites or call you travel agent to help you find the best promo deal for your needs.
